The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) working group of the United Nations Human Rights Council will meet today Monday (November 13) to verify the records related to the human rights situation in Bangladesh.

According to the United Nations, Bangladesh is one of the 10 countries that will be reviewed in this session. The delegation of Bangladesh will be led by the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Haque. The first, second and third reviews of Bangladesh were completed in February 2009, April 2013 and May 2018 respectively.

This time, the three countries that have represented Bangladesh as reviewers are Cuba, Pakistan and Romania. The UPR Working Group’s recommendations for Bangladesh are scheduled to be adopted on Wednesday (November 15) between 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm local time.

Reviews – “(1) National Report – Information provided by the State under review. (2) Information on reports by neutral human rights experts and groups – known as Special Procedures, human rights treaty bodies and other UN agencies. (3) Information provided by other partners, including national human rights institutions, regional organizations and civil society groups.” Based on the documents.

The UPR is a human rights review organization for all 193 states of the United Nations. Since its first meeting in April 2008, all 193 UN member states have been reviewed three times. The recent human rights report will examine the extent to which the recommendations that states have pledged to implement in previous hearings have been implemented.
