United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres congratulated Sheikh Hasina for being re-elected as Prime Minister. He congratulated the Prime Minister in a message sent on Thursday (January 18).
In his congratulatory message, the UN Secretary General said, I would like to congratulate you for being re-elected as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
He said the United Nations deeply values the partnership with Bangladesh, including major contributions to peacekeeping operations, generosity to Rohingya refugees and efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. I also appreciate your participation in the Global Crisis Response Group.
He further said, “I believe that I can count on your support in our ambitions to tackle the growing global challenges, including the fight against climate change and reforming the international economic framework.” Committed to working with your government through the United Nations Country Team for the benefit of the people of Bangladesh.
