The regret of making a woman Chief Justice remained: Prime Minister

News desk, The CNN :

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that during the Pakistan era, there were many barriers for women. At that time women were not given any opportunity in the workplace. After independence, Bangabandhu Mujib gave that opportunity to women. According to the law, women cannot join the judiciary. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu changed that law. Later I came and made its way more smooth. The regret remains, I wanted to make the Chief Justice a woman. But I couldn’t.

He said this at the Begum Rokeya Padak 2023 awarding ceremony at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Saturday (December 9).

He also said that women have contributed a lot in our great liberation war. They went to training, also cooperated in the battlefield. They were subjected to various tortures at the hands of the Pakistani occupation forces. Begum Rokeya started a school in the name of her husband, there were no female students. He used to go door to door and collect students. He also faced many obstacles there. He mentioned in his writings that what men can do, women can also do.

Bangabandhu’s daughter said, “My father was in jail most of the time.” My mother did all the work including running the family, organizing the team well. In Bangladesh, women are no longer lagging behind, women are working successfully in all fields from politics to sports. From journalism to the arts, women are successful everywhere.
