Swearing-in of 50 MPs elected to reserved women seats will be held today. On Wednesday (February 28) at 3:30 pm, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury will recite their oath in the oath room of Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan.

After taking the oath, they will sign the oath book and attend the Parliament session at 5:15 pm. Earlier, the Election Commission published the gazette with the list of 50 MPs on Tuesday (February 27).

In a circular, the EC informed that a total of 50 candidates, including 48 nominees of Awami League and alliance and two nominees of Jatiya Party, were submitted as per the scheduled schedule for submission of nomination papers for the election of 50 reserved women’s seats in the 12th National Assembly. The nomination papers of the 50 candidates selected as per the pre-announced schedule are declared valid.

As no candidate withdrew his candidature by 4 pm on February 25 as per the announced schedule, the final list of candidates was published in accordance with sub-section (1) of section 12 of the Jatiya Sangsad (Reserved Women’s Seats) Election Act, 2004.

It should be noted that Awami League has formed the government for the fourth consecutive time through the elections held on January 7. Awami League got 223 seats in the election. Apart from this, independents got 62 seats and Jatiya Party got 11 seats. Three seats were won from other three parties. Apart from this, one seat is still to be elected.
