The hearing of the fourth day of the appeal against the cancellation of the nomination papers ahead of the 12th National Assembly elections has ended.

On Wednesday (December 13) at 10 am, the appeal was heard at the Election Commission in Agargaon of the capital. Ends at 4 pm.

On the fourth day of hearing, 46 candidates were withdrawn. 50 applications have been rejected. And three people have not decided.

A total of 214 candidates have returned their candidature in four days in this appeal hearing which started from last December 10. EC rejected the appeal of 160 candidates.

Out of this, the appeal of 94 candidates was heard on the first day. Of these, 56 candidates were reinstated and 32 candidates’ appeals were rejected. On the second day, 99 appeals were heard. Of these, 51 candidates were withdrawn and 41 candidates’ appeals were rejected. On the third day, 98 appeals were heard. Of these, 61 candidates were reinstated and 37 candidates’ appeals were rejected by the EC.

A total of 2,716 candidates, including 747 independents, submitted nomination papers to participate in the twelfth national election. After the selection, the returning officers declared 1,985 nomination papers valid and 731 invalid. Later, 561 candidates filed an appeal seeking withdrawal and cancellation of candidature. The appeal hearing is ongoing till December 15.
