Myanmar is ready to take back the soldiers sheltered in Bangladesh: BGB Director General

BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui said that Myanmar is ready to take back the soldiers who have taken refuge in Bangladesh. Bangladesh requested repatriation as soon as possible.

He said this during a press briefing after visiting Tumbru and Ghumdhum border areas on Wednesday (February 7).

BGB Director General said, this is Myanmar’s internal conflict. Bangladesh is also affected. We do not want any more deaths, BGB will keep the border safe with utmost patience.

Urging the residents of Ghumdhum and Tumbru border areas of Naikxyongchari upazila of Bandarban to go to safe shelter, he said, ‘It is natural that it is not pleasant to leave your house and stay somewhere else. But to save life, when such a situation occurs, something must be done. The place is not safe for our common people.

Meanwhile, gunshots were heard again across the Ghumdhum border since morning. Many people have left the area due to ongoing tension at the border. Locals have taken shelter in shelters fearing bullets and mortars. Men are guarding the house keeping women and children in shelters.
