Popular actress Mahia Mahi got her candidature back by appealing to the Election Commission (EC). He filed his nomination form as an independent candidate for Rajshahi-1 constituency. Rajshahi District Commissioner canceled it after verification. Finally, his nomination was upheld on appeal.
On Monday (December 11), Mahi’s nomination paper was declared valid at 2.30 pm on the second day of the appeal hearing. At this time, the heroine burst into cheers. He showed his victory sign in front of the journalists.
Earlier, Rajshahi District Commissioner Shamim Ahmed canceled Mahir’s nomination after scrutiny on December 3. It is reported that the names and signatures of the voters who were given by Mahi as an independent candidate were checked and the correct information was not found. Usually 10 voters of a candidate are verified. In the case of Mahi, the information of the three was not available. Mahia Mahi appealed to the Election Commission last Friday after the cancellation of nomination papers. The candidate was reinstated on the second day of the hearing of the appeal.
Mahi, who has just entered politics, bought nomination papers of Awami League to be a candidate for Chapainawabganj-2 seat. From there, the party has nominated the current Member of Parliament, Ziaur Rahman. After that, Mahi announced to be an independent candidate for Rajshahi-1 seat. Submitted the nomination form in the office of Returning Officer of Rajshahi. Earlier, Mahi had bought the nomination papers of Awami League to be a candidate in the Chapainawabganj-2 seat by-election held in February this year. Awami League did not nominate him for service.
On October 26 last year, Mahi got two posts in the Bangabandhu Cultural Jota. In between, he became joint general secretary in the central committee of the organization and got the responsibility of convener in the Rajshahi divisional committee.
