Letter to Rajuk to seal the list of dangerous buildings

Correspondent, The CNN :

A letter has been sent to the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) to form an investigation committee to identify and seal the dangerous buildings in the metropolis of Dhaka. On Saturday (March 2), Supreme Court lawyer Abdullah Al Haroon Bhuiyan sent a letter to the Capital Development Authority (Rajuk).

It is said in the letter that on Thursday (February 29), a fire broke out in a building called Green Cozy Cottage on Bailey Road in the capital. So far, about 46 people have been killed and many others are under treatment in hospital with serious injuries. The building was not approved for commercial use. And the stairs inside the building are not made according to the rules. Even though the fire service authority gave a notice to stop such activities, no action was taken. Which is grossly negligent. Such incidents and loss of life occur almost every year, including the FR tower fire incident in Nimtali. Therefore, the letter has asked to highlight the correct information about what measures were taken in those matters. The concerned have been requested to take action in this regard within 24 hours of receiving the letter. Otherwise, he said, a writ will be filed seeking the direction of the High Court to take legal action.

Copies of the letter have been given to the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Secretary of the Ministry of Forest and Environmental Affairs, the Director General of the Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defense and the Secretary of Dhaka South City Corporation.
