Khadija released on bail after 15 months

Jagannath University student Khadijatul Kubra was released on bail after 15 months in the Digital Security Act case. He was released from Kashimpur Central Jail on Monday (November 20) around 9 am.

Acting Senior Superintendent of Kashimpur Women’s Prison. Shahjahan Mia said that Khadija’s bail documents were scrutinized after they arrived at the jail on Sunday evening. It was then decided to release him from prison early Monday morning. But he did not want to come out of the prison as no family member came. He was later released from prison around 9 am when his sister came.

Earlier, on November 16, a six-judge bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan upheld Khadija’s bail granted by the High Court.

Incidentally, Khadijatul Kubra is a political science student of Jagannath University. In October 2020, the police filed separate cases against him in Kalabagan and Newmarket police stations of the capital under the Digital Security Act for allegedly spreading anti-government statements online and tarnishing the country’s image. Khadija was arrested on August 27, 2022 after filing the charge sheet in the case. On February 16, the High Court granted his permanent bail in two cases in view of separate applications. Later, the state appealed against the bail.
