Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of TIB, said that freedom of media is one of the fundamental rights of people. Media freedom is essential for democracy.
He said this at a discussion program organized by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day on Saturday (December 9).
Anti-Corruption Investigative Journalism Award, 2023 was presented by TIB on the occasion. This time, the winners in the regional newspaper category are Shariful Islam, the chief reporter of Chittagong Ekushey.com, Zahid Hasan, the representative of Dainik Kaler Kanther Savar in the national newspaper category, and Hasan Misbah, the senior reporter of Independent Television, in the television category. Independent Television’s documentary program ‘Talaash’ won the award in the category of television documentary.
Chairperson of TIB Sultana Kamal presided over the event.
Iftekharuzzaman also said that if development is to be meaningful for the people, in the public interest, then democracy is essential. And by ensuring democracy, people’s freedom of speech, freedom of media, freedom of expression, real development can be meaningful. Media freedom is essential for democracy.
