Due to dense fog, flights are suspended at Saidpur in Nilphamari. As a result, more than two hundred passengers of three private flights bound for Dhaka were stranded until 12 noon on Tuesday (January 2). However, the airport authorities said that there is no cause for alarm.

There is thick fog in the sky of Syedpur. This thick fog can last till noon. At 11 am the visibility in the runway area was 500 meters. It rose to 700 meters at 12 noon. Generally, aircraft can take off on runways with a visual range of 2,000 meters. So no flight could land.

Lokman Hossain, in-charge of Syedpur Meteorological Office, said that fog like drizzle has been falling since morning. It may take a few more hours for the thick fog to clear. The minimum temperature recorded in the region was 9 degrees Celsius. Drizzle will continue during next 24 hours along with dense fog and wintry intensity from midnight onwards.

Syedpur Airport Manager Mojibur Rahman said that due to weather change and drizzle since morning, two US-Bangla flights and one NovoAir flight did not take off from Dhaka to Syedpur. Flight operations will be normal once the thick fog in the sky clears.
