Boat candidate won 224 seats in the 12th National Parliament election

The 12th National Assembly elections were held yesterday in the country fairly peacefully amid relatively low voter turnout, center grab complaints and boycotts. In this election, out of 300 seats, 299 seats have been voted.

According to the latest results, the ruling Awami League has got an absolute majority in the election. Out of 299 seats, Awami League nominated boat symbol candidates have won 224 seats. The candidates of the opposition party Jatiya Party with plow symbol won 11 seats. Independent candidates won 60 seats. Apart from this, Kalyan Party won one seat, Jasad one seat and Workers Party one seat. As one candidate of Naogaon-2 constituency died, polling will be held there again in the new schedule.

As a result of this vote, Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina is going to form the government for the fourth consecutive term for the first time in the history of Bangladesh. The leader of the party, Sheikh Hasina, is going to become the Prime Minister for the fourth time in a row and for the fifth time in total. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal told reporters that the election was held peacefully. About 40 percent of the voters exercised their right to vote.

Voting was done continuously from 8 am to 4 pm yesterday. About 8 lakh members of law and order forces have been deployed across the country to ensure a free, fair and impartial election. There were 1 thousand 969 candidates from 28 parties including Awami League, Jatiya Party. 437 of them were independent. 16 parties including BNP boycotted the vote.
