Arrested from Abul Uttara, a war criminal directly involved in crimes against humanity

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Md Abul Khair (70), a war criminal directly involved in crimes against humanity and a fugitive accused under the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Tribunal, from Uttara.

Based on secret information, a smart team of RAB-10 conducted a raid on Wednesday (January 31) around 2:00 pm in Sector No. 14 of Uttara-Paschim Police Station, Master Gali area of Ahalia and arrested him. Today, he has been sent to Dhaka’s International Criminal Tribunal-1 for questioning.

Arrested accused- Md Abul Khair (70) son of deceased Dana Mia of Char Fakira village of Companyganj police station of Noakhali district. He is a fugitive accused of war crimes under an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Tribunal-1 (Bangladesh).

RAB-10 Deputy Director Aminul Islam gave this information on Thursday (February 1) afternoon.

He said that during the great liberation war of 1971, Md Abul Khair and other members of the war criminal Razakar forces were directly involved in crimes against humanity including abductions, brutal murders as collaborators of the Pakistani invading forces in Noakhali area. During the Great War of Liberation in 1971, along with war criminals Abul and other armed Razakars, the Pakistani Army killed intellectual Dr. Ramesh Chandra Sen in various areas of Companyganj Police Station of Noakhali district, including seven freedom fighters of freedom fighters. A case filed by the International Criminal Tribunal on November 12, 2017 in Elksh, Complaint Reg. Serial-87, International Criminal Tribunal-1 (Bangladesh) Ms. Case No-04/2021 was filed.

Aminul Islam said that on December 5, 2021, an arrest warrant was issued by the International Criminal Tribunal against war criminal Md. Abul Khair. After the issue of arrest warrant, the accused went into hiding in different parts of the country.

According to RAB, during the initial interrogation, the arrested accused has frankly admitted his involvement in the incident. In the interrogation, he also said that since the arrest warrant was issued, he used to hide in disguise at different places to avoid arrest from the law enforcement agencies. Necessary legal action has been taken against the arrested accused.
