Former prime minister of Zionist Israel, Ehud Barak, said that Tel Aviv should have announced from the beginning of the Gaza war that Israel was willing to release “all for all”. All Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons should have been freed in exchange for all Israeli “hostages” held in Gaza.
He made this comment in an interview with an Israeli TV channel on Friday (November 1).
Yehud Barak said that this agreement may not have been made at that time, but if it had been done, Israel would have gained a great deal of legitimacy in the international arena.
The former Israeli prime minister, who is a harsh critic of current Prime Minister Netanyahu, said that the most important thing is that there is a difference between any agreement of the past with the hostages who are currently stuck in Gaza. The State of Israel did not take any measures to protect the hostages’ safety this time but instead left them in a state of insecurity, which allowed Hamas to attack them on October 7. He said, now Tel Aviv has to decide whether it will endanger the lives of the “hostages” who have been left helpless in the hands of Hamas.
According to Yehud Barak, the way in which the “hostages” are being attacked and tried to be freed could have resulted in their death in an Israeli attack. Hamas announced last Thursday that an Israeli attack killed a woman and her two children in their custody.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Barak also said, “If thousands of Palestinians are released today and Israeli hostages are released, then we will be able to decide what to do with Hamas or with the released prisoners in the long term.” But if we don’t rescue the hostages now, they won’t be rescued alive when the war is over.
