Add multi-dimensionality to crime and criminal activities: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said the use of modern technology and the changing global social order have added multi-dimensionality to the activities of crime and criminals. He said this at the opening ceremony of the eighth batch of the master’s program titled ‘Master of Applied Criminology and Police Management’ at the Bangladesh Police Staff College on Saturday (February 17).

The IGP said, apart from the crimes that used to be committed at the field level, the types of crimes have changed due to the increase in information technology and communication activities, besides digitalized crimes have been added. Bangladesh Police is working relentlessly to combat those crimes through higher education and technological development.

The police chief said that crimes like terrorism, militancy and extremism have been added to Bangladesh due to the influence of global crime. Bangladesh Police is successfully conducting education, training and research programs to combat such domestic, regional and international multi-dimensional crimes. As a result of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s sincere desire, Bangladesh Police Staff College started its journey in 2000 and continues to make special contributions in training and research.

Before inaugurating the course, he inaugurated the newly constructed Cyber Lab of the Police Staff College. Later visited the International Police Research and Innovation Centre. The IGP assured all support in the field of higher education and research. Senior officers of Bangladesh Police, teachers of various universities, student officers of Master’s program and others were present in the event.
