Factory workers are protesting in Mouchak area of Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur demanding implementation of new salary structure. At one point they blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The incident took place in front of the Kocola Food Products Limited factory in Mouchak area on Monday (January 22) morning.
The workers, police and local residents said that the workers of Kokla Food Products Limited factory staged a protest in front of the gate of the company to demand the implementation of the new salary structure announced by the government. At one point, the workers blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway. This caused long traffic jams on the highway. At that time, the staff and workers staying inside the factory threw bricks and stones at the workers staying outside. Later there was an incident of throwing bricks and bricks between the workers outside and the workers inside the factory. Several workers were injured in the incident. The injured workers were rescued and sent to different hospitals and clinics. When the police went to the spot after receiving the information, a chase took place between the workers and the police. Later, the workers dispersed when the police fired a few rounds of grenades and tear shells to control the situation.
Gazipur Industrial Police Additional Superintendent of Police Deepak Majumder told the media that the police went to the spot after receiving information about the workers’ protest. At this time, when trying to convince the workers, they got excited. At one point the workers tried to vandalize the factory and blocked the highway. Later the police forced to throw tearshells and sound grenades. When the workers dispersed, the situation returned to normal.
