Awami League government is working for the welfare of poor people

News Desk, The CNN :

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the Awami League-led government is following the path shown by the father of the nation and is working for the welfare of the poor people of the country.

He said this in a message given on the occasion of National Social Service Day.

In the speech, he further said, we have achieved great freedom under the undisputed leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time. He undertook various far-reaching initiatives, including providing constitutional guarantees at the beginning of the country’s reconstruction, to transform the helpless, backward people of war-torn Bangladesh into skilled human resources and to uphold human rights. I am glad to know that ‘National Social Service Day 2024’ is being celebrated on January 2 by the Ministry of Social Welfare. I think that the theme of this day, ‘We will build the country through social service, Bangladesh will be smart’ is very timely.

He said that in 1974, Bangabandhu introduced the interest-free micro-credit program and took the development project titled ‘Palli Matru Kendra’ to empower women. The Children Act, 1974 was enacted for the protection of children. The Father of the Nation established the Care and Protection Centre, now known as Govt. Shishu Parivar, for child development. Our government has arranged to reserve 10 seats for seniors in every child family. Currently, 226 institutions of various types are being run under the Directorate of Social Services. A total of 54 philanthropic activities of the social safety net are being implemented for the welfare and development of the poor, underprivileged children, orphans with disabilities, teenagers, women and the elderly in Bangladesh, and the welfare and development of the helpless people. Under social security program, 1 crore 15 lakh beneficiaries’ allowances and grants are being delivered directly to their doorsteps through mobile financial services on a G-to-P basis.

He wished all round success of all programs undertaken on the occasion of ‘National Social Service Day 2024’.
