On the occasion of the English New Year-2024, President Md congratulated the countrymen in separate messages. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Greeting the countrymen, the President said that the Christian New Year brings with it new dreams and new inspiration. It is human nature to accept the new. So, to welcome the New Year, colorful events are organized around the world. Bangladesh is also ready to welcome the Christian New Year. Although Bengali New Year is closely related to our culture, Christian calendar is widely used in practical life. Christianity is therefore inextricably intertwined in our daily life. New Year comes in our life with enthusiasm and happiness. Therefore, the mistakes, failures and disappointments of the past should be pushed away and moved forward. Be ready to accept new and positive changes.
He also said that as a result of the Corona epidemic and the global financial crisis, there has been an impact on commodity prices and inflation in Bangladesh. Many people around us are suffering. In the New Year we extend a helping hand to each other, this is the hope of the English ‘New Year – 2024’.
Apart from this, the President urged the countrymen to celebrate the New Year by following the rules of hygiene, taking care that one’s happiness does not cause others sadness. Let Bangladesh move forward in the path of great possibilities in the new year by leaving behind the joys and sorrows, joys and pains of the past year, Sahabuddin said, hoping that in the Christian New Year, the New Year will awaken new hope and new possibilities among everyone. May the Christian New Year bring endless joy and prosperity to everyone’s life.
On the other hand, while greeting the countrymen on the occasion of New Year, Sheikh Hasina said, today we are going to leave behind the time and emerge in the light of the new day, all the achievements of that time are working as a strong platform for our forward journey. So this Mahendra time of the new year is an inspiration to face all the challenges and exploit the new possibilities to create a platform to climb to new heights of progress.
He said, I pray that in the new year, the bond of harmony, friendship and brotherhood among people will be strengthened, all crises will be removed, all narrowness will be overcome and everyone’s life will be filled with endless happiness, peace and prosperity.
Referring to ‘2023 as a golden era of Bangladesh’s infrastructure development’, the Prime Minister said, after inaugurating the Padma Bridge built with our own funds on 25 June 2022, we inaugurated the rail link on 10 October 2023. After launching metro rail on Uttara-Agargaon route on December 28, 2022, we have extended metro rail service to Motijheel on November 4, 2023.
Sheikh Hasina said, Awami League government always works according to election promises. We have made unprecedented progress in every aspect of socio-economic development in the last 15 years, winning three consecutive rounds of popular vote since the 2008 elections. Like other countries in the world, the economy of Bangladesh also slowed down a bit due to the corona virus epidemic. The Ukraine-Russia war and economic sanctions and counter-sanctions have caused suffering for innocent people around the world. We have already called for an end to Israel’s aggression in Gaza, Palestine. We don’t want war, we want peace.
The Prime Minister said that the Awami League government has set a unique example of resolving any crisis in the country peacefully through discussion. We have exchanged enclaves with neighboring India. We have sheltered about 1.1 million Rohingya people who fled the genocide in Myanmar to defend themselves.
He said that 33 districts of the country have already been declared landless and homeless free. We have brought hundred percent of people under electricity facilities. About 18,500 community clinics, union health care and family planning centers provide free primary health care and free 30 types of medicines. We have given agricultural input support cards to 2 crore 10 lakh farmers. Giving scholarships to two crore 53 lakh students.
Sheikh Hasina said, on August 17, 2023, we have introduced universal pension for 10 crore people in four categories. Awami League government has been delivering free books to students on the first day of the year since 2010. This book festival has also added a new dimension to English New Year celebrations in Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister said that only if Awami League is in government, the development of the country and the well-being of the people. Because, only Awami League holds the noble ideal of freedom and works for the country and the people with dedication.
Calling upon the countrymen, he said, let us dedicate ourselves to the overall welfare of the people, protect people’s lives and state resources by resisting arson, and above all, maintain the continuity of democracy and development and build the non-communal golden Bangladesh of the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Chief Minister said that we won victory on December 16, 1971 by defeating the Pakistanis through the bloody liberation war under the leadership of our great leader, the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He gave us a constitution just nine months after independence.
