Shahbagh and Karwan Bazar stations of metro rail have been launched in Dhaka. On Sunday (December 31), 16 stations from Diabari to Motijheel of MRT 6 line were opened with the opening of these two stations.

At 8:04 am, a private employee said that he had to walk down to Farmgate station and come to the caravan market. Now he is very happy to get directly into the caravan market.

Earlier, Dhaka University and Vijay Sarani were opened as the 13th and 14th stations from last December 13. Two more stations were opened in the last day of the year.

The government accepted the metro rail project in July 2012. The initial implementation period of this project was till June 2024. Later the time was extended. The MRT Line-6 project is being constructed at a cost of Tk 33 thousand 472 crores. Metrorail has a total of 17 stations from Uttara to Kamalapur. These are Uttara-Uttar, Uttara Center, Uttara Dakshin, Pallabi, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Sheorapara, Agargaon, Vijay Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, Dhaka University, Secretariat, Motijheel and Kamalapur. Meanwhile, all the stations except Kamalapur became operational. Kamalapur station is scheduled to be operational by 2025.

From 1 lakh 30 to 1 lakh 56 thousand passengers travel in metro rail trains in a day. Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) managing director MAN Chiddik, who is in charge of the construction and operation of the metro rail, gave this information last Thursday. Although all the stations from Diabari to Motijheel are operational, trains from Agargaon to Motijheel will run from 7:10 am to 11:30 pm as before. In the next three months, trains in this section will run till night like Diabari-Agargaon section.
