Nawaz Sharif acquitted in corruption case

International Desk, The CNN :

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been acquitted in the much-discussed Avenfield corruption case. On Wednesday (November 29), a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court ordered the acquittal of Nawaz from the case.

According to a report by the British news agency Reuters, Nawaz was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the Avenfield corruption case in 2018 for allegedly building wealth with illegal money in London, UK. Five years later, he was released from the responsibility of corruption.

Pakistan will hold general elections in February next year. It is a big relief for Nawaz Sharif to be acquitted in the corruption case before the elections. In addition, the country’s anti-corruption agency has withdrawn its appeal against the court’s acquittal in another corruption case. With this, another obstacle has been removed from his front. However, the verdict against Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia Steel Mill case is still upheld. In 2018, Nawaz was sentenced to 7 years in the Al-Azizia case. He also appealed against this verdict. It is assumed that the appeal hearing of this case will be completed before the elections.

Nawaz Sharif said after being acquitted, I thank Allah. I left the whole matter to him. Today Allah has made us victorious.

Nawaz Sharif went abroad for treatment on bail in 2019. Then in 2022, when Imran Khan was deposed in the trust vote, Nawaz’s return to the country became possible. He returned to Pakistan last month.
