BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s bail plea is awaiting hearing in the case of vandalizing the Chief Justice’s residence. The hearing will be held at Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Achaduzzaman’s court on Monday (November 20) around 2 pm.
Mirza Fakhrul’s lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah said that BNP Secretary General’s bail hearing will be held around 2 pm. As per the merits of the case, I hope he gets bail.
On the other hand, State lawyer Tapas Kumar Pal said, we will strongly oppose BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul’s bail from the State side.
Earlier, before the commencement of BNP’s general assembly on October 28, BNP activists broke tree branches and attacked nameplates and gates with hand sticks in front of the Chief Justice’s residence. The accused kept throwing bricks inside. In this incident, a case was filed against 59 BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul in Ramna police station. DB Police arrested Mirza Fakhrul from his home in Gulshan on the morning of October 29. After that, the investigating officer applied to bring him to the court and keep him in jail until the investigation of the case is over. On the other hand, Fakhrul’s lawyer applied for bail. After the hearing of both parties, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin refused his bail and ordered to send him to jail. Later on November 2, Mirza Fakhrul’s lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah applied for bail. The court fixed November 20 for the hearing in this regard.
