A young man has been arrested by the police in connection with the recovery of the hanging body of Afroz Mirza Esha, the plaintiff in the rape case filed against Tangail city Awami League vice-president Golam Kibria alias Bara Monir.
The arrested Sourav Pal is the son of Shyamal Pal of Thanapara area of Tangail Municipality. He was arrested on Saturday night. It is said that Sourav had a friendly relationship with the plaintiff (deceased) Esha.
On Sunday (November 19) afternoon, Tangail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abu Chalam Miah confirmed the matter.
Earlier on Friday night, Esha Mirza’s elder sister Luna Mirza filed a case of abetment of suicide in the name of Sourav Pradhan and his elder brother Johnny Mirza.
Tangail Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abu Chalam Miah said that on Saturday night, Esha Mirza’s sister Luna Mirza filed a case accusing her brother Johnny Mirza and a person named Saurabh of committing suicide. The body was recovered and sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue. And an autopsy was conducted on Sunday. He said that the arrested Sourav Pal has been sent to the court for questioning on a 5-day remand.
It is to be noted that Esha Mirza, who was killed at Tangail Sadar police station on the night of April 5 this year, filed a case of rape against Awami League vice president Golam Kibria Bara Moni as a plaintiff. In the case, Esha got pregnant due to rape and mentioned. Later on April 6 afternoon, Esha gave a statement under section 22 in the court. Golam Kibria Bara Monir, the sole accused in the rape case filed by Esha, is currently out on bail from the High Court.
