The UN Security Council passed a resolution for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza

International Desk, The CNN :

The UN Security Council has passed a resolution for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza. On Wednesday (Nov 15), 12 of the 15 members of the Security Council voted in favor of the Maltese resolution calling for an “urgent and extended humanitarian pause”. However, although no one voted against, the United States, United Kingdom and Russia abstained from voting. This is what Al Jazeera mentioned in the report.

This resolution was passed by the UN Security Council about a month and a half after Israel’s invasion of Gaza. However, Israel immediately opposed this proposal. The proposed resolution calls for a cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip for several days and the opening of the corridor. At the same time, it has been said to ensure the full, safe and unhindered movement of various UN agencies and their partners. In addition, they demanded the release of all Israelis and foreign citizens held by Hamas in Gaza.

Earlier, the Security Council met four times on the issue of the Gaza war. However, no proposal has been passed so far due to the obstruction of Israel’s close ally, the United States.

Malta’s UN Ambassador Vanessa Frazier said, “Today we have achieved the first step in an important step. We remain steadfast in our commitment to protect civilians and prevent the plight of children in this chronically armed conflict.
