Anti-Palestinian British Home Secretary Suella Braverman has been sacked. Also, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has brought back former Prime Minister David Cameron as Foreign Minister.
Prime Minister Sunak kicked off his cabinet reshuffle by sacking Suella Braverman from the Interior Ministry post on Monday morning local time.
About 300,000 people took to the streets of London last Saturday to demand a cease-fire in Gaza and an end to Israel’s attacks. The London Metropolitan Police was asked by the UK government not to allow the protest to take place. But London’s Metropolitan Police rejected the request, saying there was no indication or threat of major violence at the protest. Therefore, there is no opportunity to stop this protest at the request of the government.
The next general election in the UK is due next year. Before that, Sunak’s party, Conservative Party, is lagging badly behind the opposition Labor Party in various public opinion polls. Sunak may be looking to change that situation by bringing major changes in the government system.
