Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Asia’s largest Ghorashal-Palash Urea Fertilizer Factory at Narsingdi. He inaugurated this factory at 12:45 on Sunday (November 12).
Earlier, the Prime Minister reached there shortly before 12 noon.
It is known that Ghorashal-Palash Urea Fertilizer Factory is energy efficient and environment friendly. The factory will produce 9 lakh 24 thousand tons of fertilizer annually. Through this, Bangladesh will save about Tk 7000 crore annually in the import of urea fertilizer.
According to sources related to the project, the construction of the factory started in October 2018. In 2020, when the corona pandemic started around the world, the infrastructure work of the project was interrupted. Later the work started on August 16 of the same year. China’s CC Seven and Japan’s contractor company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited are responsible for it.
It should be noted that the total cost of implementing the fertilizer factory project is 15 thousand 500 crores. This includes foreign debt of Tk 10,920 crore, which will take 10 years to repay. The factory has a daily production capacity of 2,800 tons of fertilizer.
