Russia launched a missile attack on the Ukrainian port city of Odessa on Wednesday (March 6). The missile hit only 500 meters from Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Zelensky. At that time he was accompanied by the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyrakos Misotakis. At least five people were killed in the attack.
A source said the convoy of the two leaders sensed the intensity of the attack and saw plumes of smoke coming out.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its military launched the attack at 11:40 a.m. Moscow time.
Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Platenchuk said the missile attack killed five people and injured many others. Neither Zelensky nor the Greek prime minister were injured in the attack. But Zelensky said he was so close to the missile attack that he heard it.
The Ukrainian president said in this regard, ‘We saw the attack today. You see who we are dealing with. I don’t know the details yet. But I know that there have been many casualties. We need to defend ourselves quickly and aggressively. And the best way to protect ourselves is the air defense system.
A Navy spokesman said he showed President Zelensky around the city before the missile attack. which has been heavily damaged by the Russian attack.
Odessa is located at the mouth of the Danube River and is very important for Ukraine’s grain exports. It is also the main base of the Ukrainian Navy. Russia has repeatedly tried to stop it since it launched its invasion of Ukraine.
