The court sentenced four kidnappers to death for killing Jayant, a third-grade school student, without getting a ransom in Rupganj, Narayanganj. Besides, each has been fined one lakh rupees. Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Umme Saraban Tahura passed the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.
Those sentenced to death- Shaheen (35) son of Sirajul Islam of Mangalkali area of Rupganj, Alamgir (27) son of Jahangir of Balainagar area, Anik Chandra Das (27) son of Rajkumar of Baniadi area and Ashiq Chandra Das (30) son of Shantosh Chandra Das of the same area. Among them, Anik Chandra Das was present in the court when the verdict was announced. Three are absconding.
Referring to the case, Narayanganj Court Police Inspector Asaduzzaman said that the accused kidnapped child Jayant on June 5, 2018 and demanded a ransom of Tk 5 lakh. A day after not getting the ransom money, they strangled the child Jayant to death by tying his hands, feet and face in an abandoned house in Baniyadi area. The deceased child, Jayant Chandra Das, is the son of Chaitanya Chandra Das, a banana seller of Baniyadi area. He was a third grader at the local Shishu Mela Kindergarten School.
